Each year the American Red Cross seeks to honor ordinary citizens doing extraordinary things. These heroes, who live and work right here in Western Pennsylvania, have gone “above and beyond” by performing a heroic act such as saving lives during an emergency or supporting disaster preparedness in their communities. Through their service these individuals embody the Red Cross mission, to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies.
The Red Cross wants to applaud these courageous individuals by officially proclaiming them Heroes at the annual Red Cross Heroes Breakfast, to be held in Pittsburgh this September. To this end, the Red Cross is asking the community to nominate its local heroes. Individuals who have performed a heroic act between April 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013 are eligible. The Red Cross has extended this nomination period to allow community members more time to recommend the heroes in their midst. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, April 12.
Heroes will be honored in seven award categories: Educator, Professional Responder, Military, Medical Professional, Youth, Good Samaritan, and Life Commitment to the Red Cross. Detailed descriptions of the qualifications for each category, as well as the nomination form, are attached below.
Please share this information with your community and consider nominating a local hero.
